"Brother 8000 series is a wonderful family of printers." 2010-02-16

Contrary to one of the erroneous reviews, the Brother 8085DN DOES support duplex scanning and copying. That is why you pay $50-75 more than the 8080DN, which only does duplex printing.

We have the 8080DN and this series of Brother printers is FANTASTIC -- an amazingly powerful business printer for the price of a personal printer. These things are well built, meant for a busy workgroup/small business setting. My wife runs a small nonprofit and has to print board packets and this thing just cranks them out. It will happily print two-sided packets and collate them -- it will go hours of printing without a hiccup. Duplex printing is much slower than one sided printing -- DUH, that is true of ANY printer. You're not going to get high duplex speed until you get into the corporate printers.

We have also owned the Canon ImageClass duplexing printer. The Canons are terrific, very trouble free personal printer. But there is a HUGE catch -- their $65 toner cartridge will only go about 1,000 pages.

The biggest selling point for this printer -- the Brother 8000 series can use a high yield cartridge (about $85, or less if you feel comfortable using a remanufacture) that is rated at a whopping 8000 pages!!!

We do a lot of printing, so I researched extensively, and Brother is in a class by itself for cartridge capacity and low print costs for this class of printer. I highly recommend anything in the 8000 series.

The only reason you might not want this printer for a home office is that it is BIG. But you can't get performance like this in anything smaller that I know of.

Other good things:

1) Energy Star compliant. In sleep mode this printer only draws 18 watts to keep the drum warm. You'd be surprised how many printers eat 40 or 50 watts in standby mode, which will cost you $30 or $40 over a year's time. Energy Star means first page speed is not quite as good as the little HPs, but it's still only like 12 seconds.

2) This printer has TRUE networking capability -- no need for print server. That means the only connection you need is ethernet from your router to the printer. Install drivers, and every computer on the network can control this printer completely -- that means scanning as well. I can't tell you how much better that is than having a USB printer that has to be shared. Brother seems to have high quality drivers -- we've connected XP, Vista and Win 7 without a hitch.

To sum up, everything about this printer speaks of quality and durability. It is just incredible what you can get for $300-$350 these days.

This printer/copier was simple to set up. Unpackaged, installed software, plugged in and it worked. Unit does duplex scanning and printing as advertised. It had all the features I needed for a relatively good price. Unfortunately, the moment I took it out of the box I knew I'd probably made a bad choice.

The build quality is very cheap and flimsy. Cheap plastic, poorly fitted parts. This translated into issues the first time I used it. The duplex scanner, which is something I'll use regularly, pulled multiple pages at once nearly every time I ran a job. The second job, a page got jammed in the feeder. I didn't get through a single job successfully.

Print speed is also pretty poor while duplexing. I'm obviously not looking for the same speed that the $10k printers we have at work. Double the time is what I'd expect unfortunately it's more like three times longer to print a page. Non-duplex printing is as advertised. Duplex scanning is painfully slow.

In the end, I returned the unit and just received a Canon imageclass D1120. All the same features but the build quality is *substantially* better. And it's $30 cheaper. So far, no jams, faster printing, better quality. I'll keep the Canon for a few more weeks and review it at that time.

Other reviews have adequately described why one should not buy this printer. One was given to me as a hand-me-down, having caused endless trouble (jamming) for the original owner. I then spent some hours trying to hunt down drivers -- the XP drivers posted at the main Sharp website were not functional. After a phone call, I was directed to the Canadian Sharp website (Sharp.ca), which has functioning XP drivers.

I loved this printer, until I upgraded to Windows Vista 64 bit. Silly me. Sharp will NOT provide a driver for this equipment. That it is still being sold is outrageous. Of course I had just purchased an $80 toner cartridge for this monstrosity, and now all I can do with it is photocopy: no printing or scanning. STAY AWAY. There are plenty of other products that will allow you to actually USE them.

This is a great machine for our small business. We use all three functions (print, scan, copy) a lot and have had no problems in 3 months of use thus far. Be advised that there is no Fax functionality on this. Who uses fax machines anyway when you can do it all from the PC today?

Great machine, wasn't a problem to setup, and I think it comes with a regular toner, not a starter toner like a lot of the other products out there today.

I purchased the AL-1655CS almost three years ago and it has been a real workhorse. It has produced more than 11,000 prints and only jammed perhaps a dozen times. Here is what I like about the machine:

1) Wide range of reduction and enlargement.

2) Two paper trays (letter and legal) plus the bypass tray.

3) High resolution scanner.

4) Reasonably reliable document feeder.

5) 2-sided copying capability (it works).

6) Since a difficult copy quality problem (see below), the tech support people have been VERY competent and helpful and responded quickly.

What I don't like:

1) When the developer cartridge failed (prematurely), the support folks told me to change the toner cartridge (more than $100) and it wasn't the problem. It took lots of trouble, lots of time and some expense before tech support finally sent me a new developer cartridge which solved the problem.

2) I had to bring in (at my cost) a local computer guy to set up the printer so it would work on my network (I'm not as techie as maybe I should be).

3) Error messages when I use the bypass tray - I still haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong (assuming that I am).

The other reviews seem to indicate that other buyers have been quite unhappy with the performance of this multifunction. I've been very pleased with mine.

"Not a bad copier" 2009-04-15

I have worked in offices for 34 years as office manager, secretary, etc., and I have used a multitude of copiers over these years including the big Xerox copiers that can nearly produce books to the little desk top copiers that printed 1 page at a time and took forever. Consider what you are buying a copier for. If you use a copier non stop or make 100 copies a day, then this may not be a copier for your, but if you are an average small office and you make 500 or so copies every couple of weeks or less then I don't see the problem. We have had our copier for 3 or more years and only had to replace the toner cartridges which you do with any copier. I have just now had to replace a drum part with is expensive (over $195.00) but the rest of the copier is in good condition and I just bought a new toner cartridge for $89.00 and if I chunk the copier, I will lose that $89.00. The parts are easy to replace, and I believe worth it. I have a Canon in my other office and it is a good copier too.

I have a dental office; so the copier gets occasional use--about maybe 10 copies per day. In the beginning, the quality of the copies is good, but the start up time is consuming. After two years, the quality of the copies declined--the ends of the page were illegible. Finding someone to service the machine was difficult. There were long waits on the phone with Sharp customer service. With so many other options (some of them with better longevity, more competitive pricing, and better customer support), I would look into buying other alternatives.

Sharp has THE WORST service I have ever dealt with. I had the AL-1551, and when I bought it I was told warranty would pay for repairs. What they instead do is send you a refurbished.... the refurbished I got was worse that the broken one I had. I had to sue them to get my machine fixed, which only needed a plastic piece in the document feeder (probably cost them $5 in parts). STAY AWAY

I have only favorable comments to make about the Inkpress Luster line of products. First, it is the only line (other than the Manufacturer suggested paper) that prints successfully with my Epson all-in-one photo RX 700 printer. Second, although it has a softer finish, it prints sharp and clear and has proven to be a favorite of mine for all photo album pix. The 4" x 6" is perfect for all my scrapbooking, and the larger sheets are good to have on hand for showcase photos.

I purchased this printer based on the review of a fellow Amazon user, who mentioned its great compatibility with Snow Leopard, as well as its very affordable price for everything it offers.

A loyal HP printer user for many years, I decided to save a couple hundred bucks and try my luck with this machine. I was sold on its many features and low price.

I was so pleased with how simple this printer was to set up. From box to print was about 8 minutes, most of that time spent removing tape from the unit and loading the toner cartridges. Network setup was instant: I connected an ethernet cable to my router (which is connected to my cable modem) and POOF -- just by printing something from Word, my Snow Leopard downloaded and installed the appropriate software, and it printed a gorgeous document. I never even needed to insert the CD (but I think I will when I try to use the PC to print to it via the network).

I wanted just one printer that all of the family members' computers could print to; this printer has successfully replaced both our black-and-white laser and our inkjet printers.

Pros:

600 x 2400 DPI (others have higher but I don't need higher resolution; in fact my eye can't tell the difference!)

If you're looking for a do-it-all, good-quality full color printer, don't need a fax, don't print large documents, and don't need to do much double-sided printing, you can't go wrong with this printer!

We got this just before Christmas and had it set up in about an hour. Works great from either computer. A bit noisey, but we are not using it contunially. The envelope feature is great and easy to use for different sizes. Generally well pleased with product.

I have been a fan of brother printers since I got the HL-5140 years ago! I am a home user but want and need a printer that will be reliable and dependable for more than 1 year, I hate ink jet printers!

Color printing is great. It's not meant to be a photo printer but it did a decent job on the photos for my daughter's science project. Printing Text is crisp and great - both Black and White and Color!

Scanning (from a PC) works excellently and is very easy to do and isn't cluttered down and overly complicated the way HP makes their scanning software...

Copying is fast and easy with the auto feeder both Black and White and Color copies are perfect.

Setting this printer up on a network was very easy - picked up an IP Address and the Printer install software found it with no problem and was setup in just a few minutes (without any bloatware). Works with Windows 7 x64... Oh and after I had it installed it downloaded and installed a firmware patch for the printer, it's nice to know that the firmware will be kept up to date without me having to check for updates.

Unpacking the printer and setting it up was easy - it's big and heavy but I was able to go from the box to a working printer in about 15 minutes by my self.

I've owned 2 other printers & all in 1's from Brother. One of the reasons I always gave Brother high marks was because most other manufacturers put starter ink or toner cartridges in their products, but not Brother; that is until now!

If they cut corners on something this low cost you have to wonder what else they went cheap on.

A new black toner cartridge is good for 2500 sheets, if you check the specs you'll see that the one it comes with is a "starter" toner cartridge, only 1000 sheets, they did the same with the color cartridges too. They already saved money by making this a non-duplex machine.

This is an excellent multi-function device. I had been using the Brother DCP-7020, an incredibly reliable machine, that lasted me ten years without any problems. The only reason I replaced it was to have color digital printing. The 9010CN is great, especially if you're running MacOS X, and ONLY if you connect the printer using the Ethernet network jack to an ethernet hub, airport base station, etc. If you do that, you have full WIRELESS PRINTING AND SCANNING. It's the scanning part that I was surprised at. I'm running Snow Leopard, and if you open up the Print Queue window for this printer, there's a scanning button in the upper-right corner which gives you access to all sorts of scanning options: color/grey, resolution, flat-bed or DOCUMENT FEEDER! I'm not sure if wireless scanning is supported via the USB port (e.g., hook up the printer via USB to an Airport Express); however, if you connect this printer to your network via ethernet and you're a mac user, you get outstanding functionality from this printer. I think others mac users have commented that the Brother-provided drivers and software don't support all the functions for macs. That might be true, but I haven't even installed the Brother-provided software/drivers. If you're using Snow Leopard, the OS itself provides the necessary support of ALL of this machine's functions (that is, except for scanning by pressing the hardware scan button). Lastly, I really appreciate how you can set-up the device's TCP/IP network settings via a browser window, similar to many routers out there, e.g. Linksys.

set it up, can't get it to connect wirelessly, used cable. Printed out ~20 pages and got msg that I was out of Toner!!! What! Ad says I should get ~2K pages. Maybe someone was very ambitious and got stuck on the 0 key.... does not print 2000. Am on my way out the door to go buy more toner... Not even 1 day of work out of this and have had more problems than it's worth.

I've just purchased and installed one of these at my wife's office and thought I would share my thoughts in a review.

This unit was purchased to replace an HP all-in-one that we only installed about 18 months ago. All I can say about HP all-in-ones is that they are garbage. Enough about them and on to the Brother review.

I did a lot of research on an alternative all-in-one before going ahead and purchasing this Brother, and I'm sure glad I did! For offices that do a fair volume of printing, require color for graphics, as well as the normal scanning and faxing work, this printer is pretty tough to beat at its price point.

The printer ships in a very large box but is actually more compact than you might think. When we pulled it out of the shipping carton we realized it was actually smaller than the HP L7780 that it was replacing (admittedly the HP has a 2nd paper tray but the Brother is still quite compact for what it does). The unit is pretty heavy and at 53 pounds you need a real counter or piece of furniture to put it on. Balancing it on the end of a rickity desk is probably not the way to go. The plastics for all of the parts are of a very heavy gauge. One of the hinges on the HP had broken within just a short amount of time and it was nice to see that this Brother actually has higher quality plastics and many of the parts that could break (like the hinges on the scanner) are replaceable components so you won't have to replace your entire all-in-one if one of these parts gives up the ghost down the road.

I connected the printer to the office wired LAN and gave it a static IP address. This took all of about 2 minutes through the basic monochrome control panel. At that point I pressed the fax and copy buttons together to do a test print. The test print came right out and looked great. There is just a bit of curling of lower grade 20 pound office paper with this LED/Laser beast. I suspect heavier grade paper will remedy that, although curling is common with smaller laser units. It's worth noting that by default every button press on the control panel emits a very loud beep, but there's a setting that can reduce the volume of this or disable it entirely.

Once the printer was on the LAN and I had verified I had a good test print I started installation of the software. I ran the HP scrubber utility to purge all remnants of the old HP printer from our multiple XP workstations and then installed the Brother software. It is worth noting that before I installed the Brother Control Center I did disable the anti-virus/firewall software on our machines (Kaspersky). Installation of the software was very simple. It warned me about needing to turn off the firewall but found the new printer right away. Once installation was complete I did a reboot and then told our anti-virus to trust all of the Brother programs and we were off to the races. I chose to install the full Brother Control Center 3 software package, WITHOUT Paperport (more on that below).

Our employees immediately were ooh'ing and aah'ing about how fast this thing is. They had about 300 pages of statements to print and this new printer ripped through them in about 15 minutes. Color quality for normal office type applications is very good. Smaller photos embedded in office literature look good, with nice color saturation. This is not a photo printer and I'm sure that the results of printing large color photos would be inferior to a quality inkjet printer. Scan quality was as good as or better than the HP, although color scans with default settings are just a little bit light and banded. It is worth noting that the scanner is super fast and one of our office software packages even recognized the ADF for remote scans, something that never worked on the HP.

Fax operation worked very well too. Brother has been making fax machines for a really long time so I didn't have too many concerns in this area. The speed and quality of faxes was quite good.

My wife has a Macbook Pro that also runs Windows XP under VMWare Fusion. I downloaded and installed the latest Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard software from Brother and it printed fantastically from both the Mac and the VMWare XP image. It's worth noting that just using the built in OS X driver I had trouble printing under XP in VMWare.

An earlier review commented that you can't have more than one user on this printer on a network, that you must buy a five user license. This is simply not true. We have seven machines and all of them are working wonderfully with this all-in-one. We did not need to "share" the printer in the network panel of any of the PCs, we simply connected all of the PCs through our network (we chose the "wired network setup" from the install menu) and they are all working great for all functions.

If you use the Paperport features that ship on the disc, it is only for one computer and you have to buy additional licenses if you want more machines to be able to use Paperport. Paperport is an OCR/scanning package for archiving your receipts, etc. It's bonus software and pretty understandable (to me at least) that you don't get unlimited licenses for this program when you buy the $400 all-in-one. Brother offers extra Paperport licenses if you really need this software on multiple computers. You can scan, print and fax with the on-board Brother software without needing Paperport, so I don't see it as being a big deal.

I know other reviews have criticized the Brother LED/Laser units for not doing a good job with envelopes, heavy card stock, business card templates, etc. We don't use this for those features so I can't comment. What I can say is that lasers are really best at being workhorses for doing a LOT of printing on regular paper as well as the normal fax/scan/copy duties. If you want to print on all sorts of media, then maybe look at a dedicated envelope printer, label printer, etc. Or consider a lower quality inkjet and be willing to take the headaches that come with that in trade.

The Brother control center software looks pretty good, with some cool things like fax to PC, fax from PC, etc. I haven't used these functions much but they look very office or home office oriented. In other words, this is productivity software, not software for helping you do scrap booking.

The only criticism I have of the printer is the cost for print materials. The toner cartridges cost about $50 a piece on Amazon and are only good for around 1500 pages each. These cartridges are not sold in discounted multi-packs. It would be nice to see Brother offer 2-pack toner kits for offices that do a lot of print volume, or a kit that includes all of the toner carts. Additionally there is a drum kit that must be replaced every 25,000 pages and it costs $100. The unit will also use quite a bit more power than an inkjet printer. All-in-all we know we will be spending an extra couple of hundred dollars a year to operate this printer, but it is well worth it, considering the speed, utility and reliability compared to the very subpar HP we had been working with before.

The Brother MFC-9320CW is a color All-In-One laser printer with wireless networking. As an All-In-One printer, it features, printing, copying, scanning, and faxing in a fairly compact package. I decided to try it out at my office, since we had a need for a new laser printer and this way it would get some good use. The first thing I noticed about it, is that it is fairly compact for a color laser. Usually these printers are huge due to the large size of the four individual toner cartridges they all need. Combine that with all-in-one functionality, and they leave little room on your desktop. The Brother is about 15% smaller than anything we currently use and has a compact footprint, so it takes up less room.

Installation was a little more complicated than I would have liked. I am the IT manager at my office, but the wireless network settings with this still gave me some problems. I went through the automatic software installation, but had a lot of problems getting it to run wirelessly on my office network until I realized the firewall was blocking it (even though I had already given it access). Although this would seem like a straightforward problem, the other printers I've set up have never run into this issue. After about an hour I was able to get everything running fairly well. I would say that software installation requires a moderate level of computer knowledge and would not recommend the novice try to set up the wireless settings themselves. This is the third wireless printer I've owned in the last few months and the hardest so far to set up wirelessly.

PRINTING - I was very satisfied with the printing functionality of the MFC-9320CW. I've purchased about 3 dozen Brother printers for our office, and while they have their flaws, printing is usually not one of them. Like all of those, pages printer per minute is fast for a color laser, coming out at the advertised 17ppm. Most monochrome lasers print around 23-30ppm. Quality looked great and I ran through 200 color prints without noticing any smearing or bleeding. I've run through six reams of paper so far (color and monochrome) without a jam yet. Printing on non-standard media is good as well. Most of the Brothers we have at the office do a poor job printing on envelopes, but the MFC-9320CW handles them perfectly without the common curling we see from the other models. I've printed on heavier card stock with no problems as well. I tried several prints on photo paper and wasn't very satisfied with the results, but I didn't expect too much since this is not a photo printer. The paper tray holds 250 sheets (half a ream), although you're really only going to be able to easily fit in a little less than that. My main problem with this printer is that there is no manual feed tray, so you can't stick a stack of envelopes in the manual slot and print them. You have to individually feed them in one at a time. This is a huge hassle for what I use the printer for. Even a small tray that could hold 10 sheets is better than nothing.

SCANNING - I think this is the first Brother scanner I've used. It scans up to 19200 dpi, and you also have the option to scan directly to common formats such as email, Word documents, and PDF. Scanning was fairly quick (no lamp warm up) and I was happy with the results. The only problem I had with it is the OCR software, which did not do a very good job of character recognition in some older documents.

COPYING - Copying speed is average (17ppm color or black), but the quality is pretty much on par with other All-In-One printers we have at the office. It's a little too slow for me to use it for anything other than the occasional 1-2 page copies I need when I don't want to get up to use a full-featured copier. The document feeder holds 35 pages, which is a decent amount and more than what I usually see from an All-In-One feeder, so that's definitely a plus.

FAXING - Surprisingly, this is actually where I felt the printer performed the best. It takes just a few seconds per page to transmit. The confirmation pages look great, and receipt of faxes is quick as well. I actually got rid of our old office fax machine and the MFC-9320CW is sitting in its place now.

Overall, this printer is too limited to gain full use in our office environment (mainly due to the lack of a manual feed tray), but I will take it home and use it at the house. The auto-feed tray for the scanner and copier, combined with the small footprint make it a perfect addition to the home office.

"A reasonable choice unless you require duplex" 2009-12-18

Overall I'd have to say the MFC-9320 performs its role as a multi-function color laser printer pretty well with a few caveats that I will discuss. It is worth mentioning that duplex printing is not a feature of this printer. It performs most of its functions well and compared to other laser printers I have owned and usedi t is quicker to warm-up and get to printing than most of the others.

Wireless is one of the reasons you might be attracted to this printer and wireless setup was fairly straightforward though it could prove to be a little tricky for someone who is not inclined in the techie direction. But unless you really need the wireless capability, it would probably be a better and more reliable choice to use the wired ethernet option.

The included software is OK but certainly not the best. In particular the OCR capabilities are nearly worthless. I scanned several documents that were not particularly complex (not a lot of columns, graphics or intricate detail) and the resulting text that emerged was laced with typos, mis-placed characters and the columns completely broke down. It's unfortunate that the OCR software is so poor since there are OCR packages that do work well out there. For me, the OCR capabilities of this machine are a throw-away.

The document feeder worked well for me and I have not yet had any jams or miss-feeds.

It is important to note that this model of printer does not have a duplex printing feature. If you need duplex, do not buy this printer since you will manually have to print the backside of your pages. To test this I printed a 100 page document using the technique of printing odd pages first, then taking the entire output, flipping it over and putting it back in the paper tray, then printing the "even" pages. I was really nervous about this because the "odd" pages were curled substantially after printing. Although I tried to bend them back into a relatively flat state before putting them back in the paper tray, they were still a bit curled. I was just waiting for the print job to get botched either due to a paper jam or having multiple pages pulled throuh at a time thus breaking the continuity of pages. Remarkably none of that happened and it printed perfectly. In fact, with over 1200 pages printed so far, I have not yet had a single paper jam during printing. I use Xerox Extra Bright Multipurpose Paper - 750 Sheets paper which is a 24lb paper with 96 brightness.

Text printing quality is on par with color laser printers at this price point. Photo printing was adequate but not great. I have an Okidata c5500N Okidata C5500N 20/24PPM 120V Color Led Printer that prints photographs better, especially when printed using a glossy laser paper such as Hammermill Color Laser Gloss Hammermill Color Laser Gloss Paper, 94 Brightness, 32lb, Letter Size, 300 Sheets per Pack (16311-0). I'm not wanting to imply that it prints photographs as well as an ink-jet printer, but for use in newsletters and such, the quality is very good. The Brother MFC-9320CW did not quite have the quality of printing photographs as the Okidata printer did. During one photo printing session, I attempted to print a full-sized (8.5x11) photo and the Brother gave me a memory error and wouldn't print it. I then made the print size smaller, and sent it to the printer again. I used the Hammermill Color Laser Gloss Paper I mentioned earlier and the resulting print was dark, murky and mostly featureless. Shockingly it was literally caked with toner... the toner was literally flaking off the paper. I was stunned. Printing small photos on plain paper was OK and that is really about all you can expect with color laser printing technology today. It will not rival the quality of ink-jet. I did find it helpful to print photos using the "vivid" setting in the print dialog and you may also need to tweak the color settings to meet your requirements.

Recently I tried printing a 12 page pdf document and the printer would print 3 pages, pause for a length of time then print 3 more pages, pause and finally finished. I attributed this to memory issues and have since upgraded the memory in the printer. The printer allows you to install up to a single 512MB module. I purchased a 256MB memory SO-DIMM and placed it in the single slot available for user-upgradable memory. I did have a little problem though and I'm not sure if it was Brother's problem or the memory module's problem, but the memory would not simply snap in to the memory slot. Once I seated the memory, pushing it back to secure it required some manipulation. I tried this several times and the end result was always the same. So if you upgrade memory, be careful and be sure you don't damage the memory module as you snap it into place. Again, this might have been the memory itself that was the problem... I have no way of knowing for sure.

The faxing capabilities of the MFC-9320CW are full-featured and include sending, receiving, polling, broadcasting, delayed fax and the usual assortment of capabilities. Brother has been producing capable fax devices for decades and it is logical to conclude that the fax portion of their products would be capable, and they are.

Scanning quality of both photos and documents was very good and the ability to scan directly to computer, although not novel, is great. You can also scan to USB flash memory devices since the MFC-9320CW includes a USB port for that purpose. The Brother Control Center software (For the Mac, it is version 2, for windows it is up to version 3) allows you to initiate scanning and copying directly from your desktop and designate where you would like copy to file items stored on your computer. It is interesting to note that when you scan to image, it is stored in a "hidden" "tmp" directory. Kind of awkward But to get around this, you can scan to file, that way you can specify where you want that file to be placed on your computer. This is configured in the Control Center "Configuration" drop-down menu.

Setup of the printer was pretty easy although getting the gigantic box inside my house was not so easy. It is an enormous box and really required two people to safely bring it in. Once unpacked, the printer itself is a bit smaller than the box would lead you to believe, but still, it's a good-sized printer and quite heavy at around 50 pounds. Installing the toner/drums was easy and well-documented in the quick-start guide.

Overall, I'm relatively happy with the printer. It is fairly speedy.

Brother technical support is excellent in my experience. I did find that I had to call them a couple times and I always got a knowledgeable, helpful technician.

There has been a firmware update to this printer so if you do end up getting this printer, check your firmware version by simultaneously holding the "*" and "#" keys... the resulting screen will display your firmware version... it is the first letter, in my case "C" that indicates your firmware version. You can go to the Brother website to download the firmware installer.

I wanted to give this 3.5 stars because the photo printing and memory issues detracted from what is otherwise a capable printer. But Amazon won't let me rate it 3.5 so I must give it a 3 star rating because I do not believe it to be a 4-star product.

It took me a few weeks to get the Brother MFC-9320CW to a point where I could actually use it and give it a review. My first problem was electrical. This big boy pulls some juice. I set it up and plugged it into the wall outlet where all my other computer equipment is plugged in through a UPS and when I rebooted my computer... uh oh... computer didn't work (that was scary!). Unplugged the printer and started the computer again and it worked fine. Tried plugging the printer into another outlet but on the same circuit and everything worked but got a very bad hum in the computer speakers both in that room and the next. Finally ran a cord across the room to a plug on a different circuit and all is well. I am using the printer in a home office with 30 year old residential wiring. If you're in the same situtation, you might have to do some rearranging to handle the load. My second issue was the installation. After using the recommended install procedure and software, any time the printer went into its power saving sleep it became disconnected from my compuer and couldn't be reconnected without a reboot. Convenient, huh? I finally had to delete the printer and let Windows autodetect and reinstall it for it to perform properly. As far as print quality and performance, as a casual user I am completely happy. It's very nice to have a machine with output that doesn't smear when it gets wet! I do find the button interface to be less than intuitive. I am accustomed to devices that are "copy ready" as default and this device switches itself to fax mode as the function that is set to when ever idle. As I do not use it for faxing, it's kind of annoying to have to poke several buttons to make a single copy of something. And if I did want to use it for faxing, I'd hate it. You cannot use the fax function on a shared single telephone line with voice calls and an answering machine and set to automatic. You can either get calls and use your answering machine and pick up faxes manually or get faxes automatically and take voice calls but no answering machine unless you have distinctive ring service from the phone utility. I know it is possible to do this, but HP devices seem to be the only ones that can do it. You might also care that this printer is a bit noisy when it's not in sleep mode. The device has a rattly sort of hum that would probably be undetectable in a busy office environment, but in a quiet home, it's fairly noticeable. It's possible to set time before it goes to a fairly short span though, and then it is silent. So, after a few trials 've got a very serviceable printer/scanner/copier and a not so useable fax machine.

So when I saw an Epson printer for [inexpensive] bucks last year, I just decided to get a new printer instead of paying [the high price] for a black and color Lexmark cartridge.

But alas, this Epson cartridge is not that much better. I just had to replace a black cartridge installed last summer with less than 50 pgs. printed on them. The funny thing is the last page printed with the finished cartridge was pretty good. Then next thing you know, the printer status program is telling me that there is no ink left. What's the deal here? There is no way a cartridge low on ink should be able to produce that good of a print, only to say "sorry, you just printed your last page and we have a chip that's goint to send an out-of-ink message to the printer so you can't use it anymore (even if there is ink left) and have to go buy a new cartridge for ...

I miss the dot matrix printer I had when I was a kid. When the ink got faint, I remember trying to find the part of the ribbon that could somehow give me a few more pages. With these cartridges, computer chips inside the cartridge decides when you should go out and get a replacement.

"great value" 2009-05-29

I researched copiers extensively when we needed to get a new one for our office. I make about 500-750 black and white copies per week, and for this capacity, this machine works great and is a great value.

Good things about it: It copies fast; you can put a stack of 40 sheets of paper at a time in the feeder tray; it only very rarely pulls through 2 sheets at a time, so I don't have to watch it making copies the entire time; the paper tray will hold about 200 sheets of paper; and it uses very cheap toner. I've had the machine for about a year and a half now, and it still works just as well as it did the day I got it.

Bad things about it: it does curl the copies a lot of the time... honestly no big deal to me, a slight nuisance since not as much paper will fit in the output tray when it's curled, but the curling goes away after a few minutes when the paper cools off; the paper tray is kind of tricky... when i first got it, i couldn't fill the tray all the way up without the machine giving me an error message. But it turned out i just needed to lengthen the tray (it's adjustable).

And considering I got this for $350 when everything else comparable that I could find was $600+, I am very, very happy with it. I actually almost didn't buy it because of some of the negative things said about it in other Amazon reviews... that's why I'm writing this review (this is the first review I've ever written.)

Honestly, if you need a black and white copier that isn't super expensive (initial cost or toner), i couldn't recommend this more.

I have purchased six of these over the years. All have performed well for printing, copying, and scanning. For most of our scanning, we use Windows XP and Adobe Acrobat. I have not used Brother tech support for this model, but tech support was very good for other Brother models.

I have had other Brother printers and they have been great. I hoped for the same and am disappointed. Although this printer was easy to set up, the scanning software was easy to figure out, the print quality is excellent, the printer simply does not print envelopes properly. No matter what I do, the envelope is always creased and bent when it comes out of the printer. I have never had this problem before, even with other brands which have not been as high performing as Brother, so I do not understand how the problem can be so serious. But I would not have bought this printer if I had known it did not have the capacity to print standard sized envelopes!

Let me start by saying that this is my first review of any product anywhere. I felt that I should write this because I always read user reviews before buying anything, and I find them very helpful. I must say that this printer is outstanding. I first contacted Brother support via e-mail to find out if this printer is compatible with Windows 7, both 32 bit and 64 bit, and also with Apple's Snow Leopard 10.6.2. They responded within 24 hours and assured me that it was, with down-loadable drivers from the Brother Solutions Center download page. So I took the plunge and made the purchase.

My printer was delivered by FedEx, a day late (as usual). I like UPS so much better, but am not faulting Amazon or Brother for this. I set up the printer as per the quick start guide and turned it on. So far so good. Here comes the best part. I called Brother's technical support line to ask for assistance in downloading the driver's and software package and installing it on my systems. An initial wait time of about fifteen minutes kinda sucked, but let me tell you, these techs at Brother are top notch. I had a Windows 7 tech walk me through the install on the 64 bit system, then the 32 bit system, without a hitch at all. They then transferred my call to an Apple expert who did the same for me. I was up and running within the hour! Wirelessly and all! Amazing!

Then I got to play with it for a while. I wasted some paper trying out the scan, copy, and print features, but it was worth it. Fax works great also. The printer is compact but heavy! I set it all up by myself, but a second set of hands would help. The printer is relatively quiet for a laser. Black is BLACK! Color is beautiful and vibrant, and best of all it works perfectly on all my systems, PC and Mac!

I have to say that the Brother support techs were so very good. They all spoke clear English and were easy to understand. They were all very knowledgeable about the machine and the various OS I had. Thumbs up all the way.

I had considered a Samsung CLX-3175FW wireless color laser, but the limited Mac support pushed me away. I called their customer service line to ask the compatibility issue and was told "I'm pretty sure it works with the Mac." Pretty sure?? No thanks! This printer replaced a Dell 968 wireless All In One. This printer would not play nice with the Mac or with 64 bit Windows 7. Dell's tech support is the worst. Long waits and unrecognizable dialects. This MFC-9320CW was THE answer! Hands down!

"Big Brother" 2009-11-18

I titled this Big Brother because of the size and weight of this printer. Before I could even set it up I had to order a print stand from Amazon because none of my furniture would hold 50+ pounds. When I received the printer I was astounded at the size of the box thinking to myself this is one big printer. But after opening the box I saw that the printer was suspended in Styrofoam. Installing the cartridges was easy. Take them carefully out of the packing, open the lid, slide them into the matching slots and close the lid. The starter cartridges (there are 4) are rated for 1,000 pages, so the total cost of ownership will be lower than with a low-priced inkjet printer. My first setup was for a desktop that was close by so I set it up via USB cable. The manual that comes with the printer is very clear so the setup was straightforward. My next setup was going to be wireless because of the distance of the other computer. Again, the manual is very clear on how to set up a wireless network so again, this was basically a straightforward setup. Now I have to say, that when you're typing in the encryption key on the printer there is a lot of letter/number pushing. Whatever number you're pushing it goes through the lower case letters, the uppercase letters and then the number, so pay attention. As you can probably tell, I missed a few numbers and had to press the keys many times. Once all that was done and it was okayed, 'connected' showed up on the LCD screen and I was good to go. The software install is pretty straightforward. Matter of fact, a lot easier then some of the other printers I have played with.

My first trial print was a simple text document. The print quality was very good, as you would expect. My second test was a 3 page PDF file that included graphics, text, and colored background. This is where the Big Brother shined. Without doing any color calculations to Big Brother I thought the color was rich and the text distinct. The printout was a little darker than on the LCD monitor, but very satisfactory. Because this PDF was a multipage printout and I wanted to save paper, the duplexing was missed, but the window that comes up if you choose duplexing is very straightforward. For my needs this would be a convenience but not a necessity. I also tried the same PDF wirelessly. Normally print speeds across a wireless network often are slower compared to a direct connection, but I didn't run into that problem with Big Brother. The third test was using the manual feed with 2-sided matte photo paper. I was going to try to print a greeting card, the card being 4 sides. I set the printer to the thickest paper setting, inserted the paper and sent the image to Big Brother. Even opening the rear door so the paper would not have to make that bend, it still came out curved. Trying to put the paper back thru the manual feed, a warning came up on the LCD that there was a paper jam. The paper never made it into the roller, but the message was there anyway. It tells you to remove the toners, and clear the paper, but if the paper didn't make it in, then just lift the lid, then close it and you are good to go. I'm beginning to think that the manual feed is a one side only. No turning the paper over to send it thru again, because of the curling. I guess I will save my greeting card printing for the Canon MX-860. This is one of the cons of this printer, it curls the paper no matter what end it comes out. A review online states that laser paper may cure the curling.

Now to using the software. The scanning via the control center is a very convenient way to scan with many options. I scanned a page filled with text, graphics and colored background. It scanned it quickly, putting it in a e-mail as a attachment, or putting the paper in a file, or as a image for editing in MS Paint and last but not least as a text only using OCR. Clicking on custom scan in the Control Center gives you many formats to choose from on how you want the document scanned. Like how you want to scan to image, scan to e-mail, scan to OCR, and scan to file. Plus you can name each tab to make life easy.

Of course you can also access some of the scan options thru the LCD on the printer, but the computer would have to be on and using the Control Center is a lot less nosier with a lot more options.

Then there is copying thru the Control Center. You have the option of setting copy ratio; resolution; scan type; and document size on 4 separate tabs that you can name. As far as stand alone copying, the Control Center options are not available. There is an option button on the printer that gives you brightness, contrast and page layout(2in1P&I,4in1P&I and 1in1, an enlarge/reduce button, and a quality button that gives you auto, photo, and text.

As far as faxing goes, this is something I don't do. Using the Control Center I can scan the document and send it to e-mail.

Last but not least, I had to try out the direct print. I inserted a USB flash drive with many files on it. After scanning thru the drive I finally found the 3 page PDF I wanted to print. There are a lot of options to go thru in order to set up the print job. Unfortunately one isn't duplexing, so it printed out 3 sheets. I guess this could be a convenience if the computer was off?

I had wondered about making this my default printer? After checking the cost of the toners on Amazon and seeing the amount of printouts and with a max duty cycle of 25,000 pages monthly I believe I will.

I've had this copier for a couple of years. It has ALWAYS worked beautifully! Not a single problem with it, or with the earlier model I used for a number of years (which my ex now has).

It's simple, easy to use, and the cartidges are easy to replace. It's not super fast, but it is inexpensive and reliable. Combining the cost of toner (around $90 for 2000 copies) and paper, copies run just about 5 cents per page.

The platten--the glass that you put the original on--moves, so you can't really copy big items like books that need to be held in place. The tradeoff there is that it is easily (and quickly) portable, as well as considerably less expensive than fixed platten models.

I got this ink cartridge with the free gateway package. I print about 1000 copies per month. The cartridge dried out the first day. I am a teacher and I printed out about six worksheets for 20 students. ...Then I needed to find a replacement cartridge. I checked Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot in Los Angeles (5 different stores) and none had this model in stock. So I had to order a new printer and search the internet for cartridges. It will be at least a week before I can use the printers. Gateway should advise customers to get an upgrade. (I certainly would have if I had know of the limited amount of prints I would get from this printer). ...My advice.: Buy something more powerful unless you print fewer than 10 copies a month! ...I have used a lot of inkjets and every HP cartridge lasted 5-10 the length of this one. Hope this helps you avoid the problems I encountered.

I thought having separate cartridges for each color would mean an overall lower cost since I would replace only those colors that had run out. However, the HP tri-color cartridges last much longer. "A Little Better than Avery" 2009-12-13

I just tried this brochure paper after using the Avery equivalent for about three years. They are very similar, but I prefer the HP brand now. Here are the differences:

SHARPNESS: HP was a tiny bit crisper. Photos were just a little better, but text was significantly sharper. (I use an Epson R320)

FOLDING: With the Avery, you have to hold the paper at just the right angle to see the fold lines. You can only see them on one side, and it folds better if you print the outside of your brochure on the side with the lines.

With HP, the fold lines are easier to see. You still have to kindof tilt the paper to see the lines, but they are visible on both sides. You can tell by looking at the lines which side would work best for the outside of the brochure.

All in all, the HP is a slight winner over the Avery, mainly because of the sharpness of the text, and slightly easier folding. We use trifolds with lots of text and high quality photos in our business, and the HP just looks more professional. To be fair, I do have to hold the brochures side by side to really notice the difference, and if HP quit making this paper I'd have no problem going back to the Avery.

One final note: I have also tried some of the glossy trifold papers and they do not work as well. There is occasional smearing, and the paper along fold lines can sometimes peel a little.

Comparing this product to Avery tri-fold brochure paper, this one stands above in most ways. The ease of folding is especially noticeable and lends a much more professional appearance. No one can tell it's coming off my printer! The cost, however, combined with HP ink prices, makes this unacceptably pricey, except for customized limited run work where you're willing to invest $0.70 a copy!

Great scanner .....but useless warranty and Fuji wants $39 or 10+ days just to fix their defects.

After just three months of daily usage scanning between 20-40 sheets, we noticed deteriorating scan quality and Fuji TeleSupport determined it was a manufacturers defect. The issue only happened with HIGH RES IMAGES BUT SINCE THE MAJORITY OF OUR USAGE IS Low / Medium Res we could still use it until the refurb /replacement arrived.

BUT THEY COULDN'T WARRANTY EXCHANGE

EVEN IF YOU OFFER THEM A CREDIT CARD FOR SECURITY !!!!

Instead, you have to send yours and pay for original shipping, then wait for at least 10 DAYS OR MORE for THEM TO SEND YOU A REFURB !!!!!

The alternative is pay them $39 for some hokey warranty extension and they'll ship A REFURB exchange PLUS YOU STILL PAY THE SHIPPING CHARGES.

No one there could consistently describe why they had to collect $39 since the stories always changed, they never called back a Supervisor was never available !!!!

"Great paper. Amazon packing is risky." 2008-12-08

5 stars for the paper. I've tried many sample packs, and Velvet Fine Art Paper produces the best B&W shadow detail on my Epson 3800.

However, Amazon's packaging for shipping is a roll of the dice, so 1 star for Amazon. Of the two times I've ordered the 17x22 from them, once it was packed in a box (good) but the second time they just slapped a label on Epson's lightweight packaging and sent it out to face the indifferent handling of Fedex (bad). That arrived with a dinged corner. I was lucky and the damage wasn't too bad and won't be seen under a mat, but anyone who is buying paper that costs $4 a sheet is probably pursuing perfection, and bent corners seriously detract from perfection.

To Amazon's credit, they did credit my account $25 when I complained, and did say that they would notify their shipping department as I suggested. However, next time I'll probably order from Calumet, B&H or Adorama--there is a better chance that their shipping departments know something about how to pack fragile photographic materials.

First off, this product is excellent. This review is to warn potential purchasers that Eforcity (3rd party vendor) purports to sell "genuine" Canon BCI-3e BK cartridges but substitutes Chinese compatibles of lesser quality. When I challenged Eforcity, they said I would have to return the bogus ink tanks to obtain a refund. Without even being asked, Amazon stepped in and processed a refund. Avoid this vendor if you need genuine Canon ink, which is strongly recommended to avoid "messy" problems with your printer.

I then went through the steps at Amazon to get refunded... which first requires me to email the company. The company never responded to my email but did refund my full purchase price once I filed the claim with Amazon. Maybe just a mix up on their part since the company has mostly (and many) positive ratings. Guess I get to list 3 knock-off brand cartridges on ebay now! :)

I was very disatisfied. I had previously ordered ink cartridges for a different printer, that were not quite as good as the originals, but this one was terrible. After installing and printing for about a week. It started printing anything black as if it was bold. VERY BOLD. The color could be seen through to the other side, I was printing on 20 wt paper bought at Office Depot. There were other problems also, they did not last half as long as original HP cartridges. I will stick to original HP cartridges in the future, because it is not a savings if it can not be used.

Not much to review since those dastardly people at epson put microchips in these things to stop you using anything else... so objective comparison is not possible.

Trying to get predictable color out of the 2200 is a nightmare and the driver simply doesn't work right..hasn't been updated in two years and still doesn't print centered when is asked to. So I guess this item gets a five star review for working as intended although the overall product perfomance is dubious at best.

I own a Epson Stylus Photo 2200 and finished the original ink cartridges that came with the printer. I was shopping online for replacement and initially thought I could save some money by using compatible ink cartridges. I tried so with cartridges from www.123inkjets.com. Though I order all 7 cartridges, I tried replacing only the Lt. Magenta one first since I still had a little ink in the originals to play with.

Initial print outs were ok, however, when I was trying to put the printed photo into a particular tight photo frame, the photo was smeared and magenta related colour came off.

I tried with various photos and long drying time but still encountered the same problem. Had to return the cartridges, but I must say www.123inkjets.com had great return service. Perhaps I'll switch my company inkjets to them since we don't print photos.

The bottom line is this: If you have a Stylus Photo 2200, go with the original Epson ink cartridges if you value the print outs. Save those "compatible" type cartridges for non-photo printing (which you shouldn't be using the 2200 to do in the first place) or for photos that aren't very important and you don't mind smearing if touched.

This is definitely a great printer for the small office. It performs most of the functions extremely well and is acceptable at the others as follows:

Pros:

* Paper feeder and scanning to memory are very fast for faxes and copies - much faster than an inkjet unit.

* Black and white capabilities are excellent.

* Status reports are available for all consumables, not just the four toner cartridges.

* Several parts are replaceable making it possible to repair rather than replace the printer. That's good for the environment.

* Wireless setup is easy to follow -- you don't have to be a techie.

* Color graphics are very good.

* For all it does, the footprint is relatively small.

* The unit's price is quite reasonable.

Cons:

* The two-line monochrome read-out is simply alpha-numeric with no pictures. Scrolling through a menu is tedious.

* The USB input is limited to PDFs and simple text documents; i.e., not Word documents.

* Photos are best left to a photo printer since there is some banding and colors are not true -- to be expected in an all-in-one.

* Color saturation in copies is decreased.

In my opinion, you can't beat a laser printer for reproducing black and white text. Add that to the speed of this printer and it's a great value and highly recommended.

The MFC-9320cw Digital Color All-in-One prints, copies, scans and faxes with high quality up to 600 x 2400 dpi, contains a 35-page capacity auto document paper feeder and provides easy access to install and replace toner cartridges. But its key features are what makes the 9320cw ideal for small office or business where value and performance are required.

Flexible networking means you can share documents via Ethernet or wireless connectivity as well as with the standard wired connection.

Fax flexibility with stand-alone or PC faxing.

Direct Print/Scan means you can print from or scan to your USB flash memory drive (not included in package)

Copying occurs at a speedy 17ppm with black and white or color, and the paper tray has a 250 sheet capacity, however, for business cards, posters and other thick papers, there's a nifty manual feed.

This all-in-one replaced a trusty HP Deskjet workhorse, and I can say the results have been surprisingly good. I have tested it in print, scan and fax mode and found it fast and efficient. I even printed two sheets of my business cards with better-than-average results. Does it print as well as my HP photo deskjet? No, the first copies were a tad disappointing, however, after tweaking the advanced adjustments, I got color that is almost as good, and since most of my work does not involve photo printing, this is quite acceptable.

Installation was a snap. (I used the wired hookup.) Directions are easy to follow with screen prompts. Setup was accomplished in less than fifteen minutes and this for a person who has never before installed an all-in-one printer.

I have only two nits: this unit does not offer duplex printing, so two-sided copies must be done manually and I occasionally get a message that the yellow and cyan toner cartridges are low, when this is not the case. Another reviewer has made similar comments. The message disappears when I reboot so is not a problem, but rather an annoyance. I would give this printer two thumbs up.

"Brother printer - a powerful do-it-all office tool" 2009-10-29

This is a very fine all-in-one laser printer for the small office, that does lots of things and does them quite well. For me the most important features are the copier and printer, and I'm very happy with what it for those functions. What it won't do, as others have noted, is automatic duplex printing. It is a bit noisier than the all-in-one I have at home, a Canon PIXMA MX860, and did let off a bit of a "toner odor" when I first got it that seems after a week or so to have gone away completely. In spite of a few concerns, I'm quite happy with this. I just want to outline quickly my take on the basic features.

easy to network - just go to the network setup menu item on the printer and connect it wirelessly to the router, then install the driver on the computer and it should find the printer. Worked perfectly for me. I set this up and was happily printing in about ten minutes.

faxing - this is a full quality fax system, that allows you to share a line with a telephone, and gives lots of options I'd not be likely to bother with (I rarely fax anything anymore, but it's nice to have the option if it becomes necessary)

fast printing - whether you're printing color or black and white documents, the brother prints very quickly - it's astonishing how quickly a full color detailed document can be printed with the brother.

quality printing - not only very fast, but the results are crisp and clean, very professional; color and black and white prints looked great

color printing - note that while it creates nice looking color documents it doesn't do a great job with photos on photo paper, but, importantly, it does do a better job printing color pictures on ordinary paper than most inkjet printers, since the ink they shoot out tends to warp ordinary paper. if precision photo printing on photo quality paper is key, you might do better with the less expensive Canon PIXMA MX860, though it is a much slower printer, and much less of a "workhorse" than the brother. If you just need occasional photo printing and top quality is not an issue, be sure to set the resolution to the highest level, and make some adjustments to the color settings until it looks right. (As soon as they upgrade the driver for a Mac, I plan to try calibrating the color settings using my ColorMunki.)

copying - works great, and I like that there are two different "start" buttons, one for color and one for b/w copies, so it's easy to choose one or the other without fussing with settings. You can feed in a whopping 35 pages automatically, and have it copy either to the regular paper or to a special paper run from the manual feed slot. It can collate and sort documents, though it won't do double sided unfortunately, unless you run it through once for one side and then turn the paper over manually.

scanning - scan in pictures, text or other documents and have them wirelessly transmitted to your computer or emailed to your account. You can set where you want them to go in the Control Center that installs with the driver.

scanning text -- I like that you can scan in documents to be edited in Word or another editor - though you have to be sure it's a clean document if you select this option. I tried scanning in a document with some handwriting and some text and the software interpreted the handwriting in funny ways, and put lots of weird characters on the page. Even with a clean document it seems to make a few mistakes: the word "cherish" on a very clean times roman font doc was interpreted as "chehsh"; and it messes up with the formatting. What that means is you will still have to proofread everything you scan before you can use it - I noticed that, for whatever reason, the text scanning function on my PIXMA doesn't have this problem and, from my experience, interprets typewritten text perfectly every time.

To sum up: in spite of a few caveats, this printer plus is highly recommended for the small office setting, where copying and printing professional laser quality documents is important, where space is at a premium and usage level is low enough that it makes sense to share faxing and scanning with the copier/printer.

I purchased a multi cart printer cx6000 in the hopes of SAVING on ink. The opposite was true. ALL 3 color cartridges and most of the black were empty after about 9 pages of simple text and 2 1/2 pages of "wallet size" prints with the quality set at medium which is the default setting. I lowered the quality to 1 notch above "draft" and I managed to double the life of my next set of cartridges which is miserable. I will never buy epson products again. This is outright thievery on their part.

"great picture quality" 2009-10-29

Three years ago I bought a Kodak EasyShare C533 camera with the series 3 printer dock. After much use the dock stopped printing. Looking around for a replacement, I was shocked at the prices, $399.99 just for a printer dock. Got one from E-bay for about $80.00 and so far it works fine. Had a problem with lines in the picture with one cartridge but apparently it was just that one defective cartridge. Initially I changed cartridges when told to by the printer and have had some extra paper ever since, now I change cartridges when it just won't print any more and my reserve is not growing. Cartridge/paper bundles have also gotten pretty expensive but I take my SD card to the store for processing for big batches of pictures and use the printer for a few pictures at a time and so for the convenience, no big complaint. The printer does need to be unplugged for reset due to various minor problems but I've gotten pretty much used to that. Kodak does not do a good job labeling the paper/cartridge bundles (there is one for the G series printers - not compatible with series 3). In the last few months local stores have stopped stocking the paper/cartridge bundles so it was Amazon.com to the rescue and at a cheaper price that the last store price for the 160 count bundle - and every time I went to buy a bundle, it cost more than previously. This unit prints pictures that have a greater three dimensional quality than what comes from the store/lab but takes a bit of attention to take care of paper feed and various other little problems that crop up. Overall, I have had good luck and enjoy having this printer/dock.

Ebayer beware! The print quality is great - and when the printer was new, it worked very well. But now, after about a year of semi-steady use, the printer jams all of the time - and jams are hard to clear. The Amazon review says printing on a PC is a hassle - not unless you know your way around XP. But the spooling software is NUTS and very slow. Moreover, the consumables are not cheap. I used to catch deals at Circuit City, now I have to buy online. I would not buy a used EasyShare. I am considering junking this machine - literally. It would be bad karma if I sold this machine to anybody.

I bought this printer dock with a new Kodak camera, and have been truly disappointed. What few pictures it printed were of excellent quality, but the paper feeder has NEVER worked properly from the first time I took it out of the box. Now, having printed probably fewer than 50 photos over the life of the printer, the ink cartridge is jammed in the unit AND the paper feeder doesn't work properly. So much for giving a once-great American company the benefit of the doubt. Try HP or Canon instead.
